Corona

April 14, 2020

G% ~ Well, this has been going on for too long and I might as well express my opinion. This documentary appeared on Youtube today ~ A streamed video about the sun and it's corona.
My first thought was to buy a six pack, but I dusted off the keyboard so I could write about the bird flu, H1N1 in particular. We all know that it has been around for a long time and most of  us have suffered from the symptoms more than once. Then along came SARS "Severe Accute Respiratory Syndrome".

SARS appeared in 2002 in China. It spread worldwide within a few months, though it was quickly contained. SARS is a virus transmitted through droplets that enter the air when someone with the disease coughs, sneezes, or talks. No known transmission has occurred since 2004.
Fever, dry cough, headache, muscle aches, and difficulty breathing are symptoms.
No treatment exists except supportive care.

WIKIPEDIA:

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)[2][3] is the virus strain that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), a respiratory illness. It is colloquially known as the coronavirus, and was previously referred to by its provisional name 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV).[4][5][6] SARS-CoV-2 is a positive-sense single-stranded RNA virus.[7] It is contagious in humans, and the World Health Organization (WHO) has designated the ongoing pandemic of COVID-19 a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.[8][9][10] Because the strain was first discovered in Wuhan, China, it is sometimes referred to as the "Wuhan virus"[11][12] or "Wuhan coronavirus".[13][14][15] Since the WHO discourages the use of names based upon locations[16][17] and to avoid confusion with the disease SARS,[18] it sometimes refers to SARS-CoV-2 as "the COVID-19 virus" in public health communications.[19] The general public frequently calls both SARS-CoV-2 and the disease it causes "coronavirus", but scientists typically use more precise terminology.[20]

MERS

Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) is viral respiratory illness that is new to humans. It was first reported in Saudi Arabia in 2012 and has since spread to several other countries, including the United States. Most people infected with MERS-CoV developed severe respiratory illness, including fever, cough, and shortness of breath. Many of them have died.

So was this also the same kind of corona virus as SARS? There are rumors that corona virus was genetically modified, but I have seen no proof of that. There are also allusions to it being man made. I hope that it isn't true ~ this whole thing is too scary to contemplate...G%

11 critical unanswered questions about the coronavirus and COVID-19, the illness it causes

Business Insider

March 30, 2020
In the realm of medicine, what you don't know can, indeed, kill you.
When it comes to the novel coronavirus, technically known as SARS-CoV-2, and the disease it causes, called COVID-19, what experts are still trying to understand seems to outweigh what they can say for certain.

After looking at the local news this morning, I headed to WINCO, the local supermarket to stock up on a few things. My neighbors were already there and what we were seeing there is unprecedented around here. The toilet paper, paper towels, etc. were all gone...empty shelves. People were stocking up on cleaning stuff, water, canned food, etc.

From The Hill

BY BRETT SAMUELS
President Trump  on Monday used the White House briefing room to lash out at critics of his response to the coronavirus outbreak, rattling off a litany of grievances about press coverage and airing a reel of cable news footage that portrayed his actions in a positive light.
The president sought to use a briefing ostensibly intended to inform the American public about the latest developments in the battle against the virus to frame his handling of the pandemic as a success. He bristled at any criticism and picking a fight with journalists in the room before experts delivered any update on the disease that has killed more than 22,000 people in the U.S.
"We really have done this right. The problem is the press doesn’t cover it the way it should be," Trump said.
